I like this reminder. It's perfect tutelage for anyone blogging for free on someone else's website. They need to provide great content, but then call readers to take action to get to know them more by clicking a link to their site or signing up for a mailing list, etc.

I ditto what Sharon said. And from a writer's' standpoint, and just who I am, I am not one to write something just to sell it. I think that really shows through in the content. When I get emails or click on a link that takes me to a page that screams "buy me, buy me", I'm most likely to delete it or get off the page as fast as I can. However, on the other hand, when I'm greeted with information and the content is useful and sincere, I am more likely to keep reading.

Thanks for the great post!

Some good reminders Alice. My natural instinct is to separate sales copy from good content because as a reader I'm so averse to being "sold to" when I think I'm reading an article for knowledge purposes. But if the content is written well (filled with useful information) and if the service or product being promoted to me in the "copy" is truly something I can use, then the combination is ideal. That's when as a content marketer I can cross over from being someone who writes for a hobby to someone who writes for a living :)
